SUMMARY:Book Launch & Artist Talk | Zuni Drake
DESCRIPTION:Join Umbrella Studio for an artist talk by local artist Zuni Drake from 10:30-11:30am on Sunday 15 December 2019.\n\nThis talk will coincide with the launch of Drake's book Encounters with Nature in Suburbia (ENS).\n\nThe book description and author information is as follows:\nHave you ever been terrified by cockroaches or at least horrified at having to deal with them in the household environment? Or been attacked by ground-based curlew birds or swooped on by magpies from lofty heights in urban environments? In Encounters with Nature in Suburbia set in Townsville\, North Queensland\, Australia\, Zuni Drake relates some of her harrowing experiences with those creatures of nature during one particular year\, in three short stories titled War of the Cockroaches\, Crazy Curlews and Swooping Magpies. In the final story Peace on Magnetic Island she experienced a restored sense of harmony with nature within that suburban environment.\nZuni Drake was born in Sydney\, Australia\, and has lived in many locations of the Great Southern Land with diverse ecological environments. Since 2007\, she has lived in Townsville\, North Queensland. After studying anthropology\, archaeology and other fascinating subjects at university during that time\, she is delighted to return to creative writing\, sketch and illustration.\n\nImage: Zuni Drake\,  Encounters with Nature in Suburbia (back cover illustration\, detail)\, 2019.\n\n \n\nThe Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and the Townsville City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.\n\nSUPPORTED BY:\n\n \n\n \n\n
