DESCRIPTION:Umbrella is responding to government restrictions for gatherings at this time and visitors must comply with our COVID-19 Safety Plan. Please join our eNews or follow our social media for updates.\nLocal artist Karen Williams’ Creative Kids | Planimals project presents a fun and engaging activity aimed at children 3-11 years old.\n\nUmbrella is extending the project into the gallery space as free self-guided activities! In the short stop-motion video tutorial\, Karen's creatures teach children how to use basic art materials to draw\, cut\, collage and create colourful\, quirky\, kooky ‘planimals’ (half-plant\, half-animal hybrid) characters. The cut and paste activity will likely take children 30-60mins to complete. The more shapes and drawings you make\, the more diverse your finished characters can be!\nMaterials are provided however you are encouraged to bring your own thin cardboard (cereal boxes or similar) and old magazines (especially those with pictures of plants!) to use creatively. Upcycle and improvise to see how fantistcal (plantastical?) your planimals can become!\nAll children must be accompanied by an adult parent or guardian.  On display Thursday 2 - Sunday 12 July 2020 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm | Sat-Sun 9am-1pm).\nPlease note that Umbrella will be closed Monday 6 July for the Townsville Show public holiday.\nRead more about the project (and download the activity materials for free to complete at home) here.\nCOVID-19 Regulations:\nMaterials will be sanitised after visits; the space is limited to 7 people (including parents / guardians) at a time; please maintain social distancing of 1.5m; see more at our Covid-Safe plan.\n\nCommissioned by Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts through Creative Kids\, this project receives generous support from the Regional Arts Development Fund. RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and the Townsville City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland. Creative Kids is Umbrella’s program for children aged 3-11 years old. It encourages children to let their imaginations run wild and to experiment with a range of materials and techniques.\n
