DESCRIPTION:Places Available: 12\n\nUmbrella Studio Administration Fee: $50 per participant*\n*Two sponsored positions available upon application to Umbrella Studio (Please note one of these places has been filled)\n\n\nParticipants will have an opportunity to learn about the history of Intaglio printmaking by seeing first hand at least 40 examples of original master works from the late 1400s until the early 20th Century. They will learn about different processes used by the printmakers who made the works. They will also have the opportunity to make their own examples using identical or similar techniques.\n\nThe following processes will be discussed:\n• Metal engraving including\n• Etching\, aquatint\, hard and soft ground\n• The use of different mordents\n• Drypoint and roulette\n• Mezzotint\n• Collagraph\n\nPlease note that not every technique shown will be made. The number of example pieces produced will depend on time\, the dynamic of the group\, and the way in which individuals work.\n\nParticipants should bring the following:\n\n• One empty glass jam jar with a lid\n• Scraps of sand paper\, whatever you have\n• Steel wool or metal pot scourer\n• Brasso\n• Medium (no.8 or 9) and small (no.1 or 2) size imitation sable brushes\n• 3 pairs Protective latex gloves (must have!)\n• Small craft/cutting knife\n• 30cm steel ruler if you own one\n• If you have your own etching needles or other tools please bring them.\n• Something for lunch\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n
