The Umbrella Creative Business Project aims to stimulate sustainable creative practices in the Townsville region, extending its reach through online platforms and marketing, in order to provide artists with self reliance and a local, interstate and international client base.
Phoebe Sheehy and Vlada Ediripputtanesca have designed a workshop on creative business management, and will also co-ordinate, in collaboration with Umbrella, a booth at the Magneticon popular culture convention. Sheehy and Ediripputtanesca each run successful creative businesses.
Sheehy’s fashion label, Phoebe Paradise, has an especially ‘Queensland’ bent to it, celebrating the imagery, iconography and architecture of the Sunshine State, and has been in growing demand from local and international buyers. Ediripputtanesca runs Junky Comics, a specialist comic shop situated in Brisbane’s own alternative arts hub of West End. Mainstream comics are in the minority at Junky Comics, which specializes in local, underground and independent publications, as well as local artisan-made apparel, jewelry and toys, not to mention original works of art and prints. Junky comics has established itself as the go-to shop in Brisbane for unique and exciting independent comics.
Price includes a ticket to MagnetiCon: Pop Culture Convention for Sunday July 3, valued at $25.
