Makerspace

Umbrella’s Makerspace is located downstairs from the gallery space. It accommodates a wide range of activities including workshops, meetings, classes, and displays, and hosts the Umbrella Makerspace Access Group (UMAG). UMAG members pay a monthly membership fee on top of the Umbrella membership to access the space and equipment 24/7 (after passing mandatory probation period/s).

The Makerspace is available for hire by Umbrella members for private use or to conduct workshops, or for use by community groups and commercial hire.

The space is conveniently located in Townsville’s CBD, near public transport with ample street parking, as well as access for deliveries. It is equipped with limited storage for art, sculpture and works on paper as well as amenities such as a toilet and a small kitchenette. Artist resources include printing presses (lithography and etching), 14 easels, a floor-loom, artist tools, work benches and lighting, with more in development. The space also hosts Umbrella’s 3D printer.
