10am – 4pm Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 November 2017
Jacqueline Aust is a New Zealand printmaker located near Auckland. She holds a a Master of Arts (Distinction) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand which provides the theoretical architecture for her printmaking and sculpture. Her research explores the relationship between autographic mark making, a response to place, and the mechanics of making multiple images. Visit her website to view her artworks: www.jacquelineaust.com
As part of The Grand Hotel Townsville Artist in Residence (AIR) program, Jacqueline will be travelling to Townsville for a week long residency and deliver a two day workshop for local artists.
Purpose of the workshop
To create a series of large-scale prints developed collaboratively on the theme of place using drypoint and monoprint techniques. Each participant would take away at least one print each.
Principles to consider
While the ultimate aim of this workshop is to create a series of prints based on the contributions of the participants the purpose is also to work through the process of collaboration. How does collaboration work? What are the questions we ask and how will we make decisions? How do we retain individual characteristics yet create aesthetically meaningful works?
Preparation
Each participant should consider what abstract marks they might make to express notions of place and bring those to the workshop.
What materials to bring:
- Drypoint tools
- Sheets of various grades of sandpaper (the coarsest grades are best)
- We will provide some various intaglio inks, but if you have your own, please bring them along (preferably oil based)
- At least 2 x sheets of acetate/plastic on which drypoint marks can be made, and which can be torn or cut into shapes. Give yourself enough to experiment with.
- 1-2 full size sheets of 300gsm paper per person (if you don’t have some, 56 x 76cm Warm White Dutch Aquatint will be available for sale at Umbrella for $7.50/$8.25)
