This workshop is ideal for beginners and artists interested in developing their visual vocabulary through reserve techniques, mark making and gold leaf detail.

As a ground up introduction to the fundamentals in ink painting, this one day workshop will cover wet and dry techniques, texture effect, ink management, paper quality and composition. You will also play with notions of gradation, balance between detailed and quiet space.

Using various reserve techniques and mark making methods, you will develop your own visual lexicon. In this workshop, you will also learn how to enhance your paintings by adding gold leaf details and experimenting with white ink.

By the end of this workshop, you will have created two A3 paintings summing up the textures, mark making and finishes you will have developed throughout the day.

What to Bring:

– Number 1 or 2 and number 4; 5 or 6 brush (1 small and one large brush in total). Preferably, please bring some natural fiber brushes (acrylic don’t hold ink very well).
– 1 large container for water (jam jar for example)
– 1 container for ink (the smallest size possible!)
