Artist Meet & Create: Hiromi Tango
15 May, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
| See below for pricesJoin us to hear well known Japanese-Australian sculptor, performance, textile, photography and installation artist Hiromi Tango discuss her practice. Hiromi is best known for her Healing Garden projects which she has exhibited in Dubai, Yogyakarta, Sydney and Melbourne. These art projects centre on community engagement processes and are as much about socio-cultural outcomes as they are about art. She looks at how art can be used to heal trauma.
In the wake of the recent Townsville flood, Hiromi has partnered with Umbrella Studio and the Queensland Regional Arts Services Network (RASN) to talk with artists about the healing power of art post-natural disaster. In addition to sharing more about her practice, Hiromi will lead a hands-on demonstration of how to create one of her healing flowers.
Hiromi is dedicated to generating healing conversations through arts engagement. Reacting to an age in which human relationships are being eclipsed by the globalisation and virtualisation of communication, the artist’s practice is often collaborative, performative and site-specific. Her immersive installations comprise vibrant sculptural accumulations of donated objects, materials and stories.
