Monoprinting Workshop with Lynn Scott-Cumming

Join Umbrella and our latest exhibiting artist Lynn Scott-Cumming 10:30am-1:30pm Sunday 9 May 2021 to create a series of unique-state text-based monoprints. Lynn will draw on her wealth of experience as an artist and writer to guide participants in both areas of her expertise. Participants will develop a short poem or prose to overlay onto shapes and images developed as monoprints. A variety of colours and papers will be available, reflecting the vibrancy and diversity of Lynn’s exhibition Moon Phase: Chasing Transcendence (on display 16 April – 23 May). Participants will also be encouraged to experiment with a variety of techniques and media.

Writers and artists (beginners to professionals) are encouraged to attend, to extend their skills in complementary fields. Participants should wear closed-in shoes and old clothing or an apron as the workshop may get messy! All other materials will be provided. This workshop will take place in Umbrella’s downstairs Makerspace at 408 Flinders St (next to Mary Who? Bookshop and opposite Woolworths).

Lynn Scott-Cumming is is a Townsville-based artist and printmaker. She holds a Master of Creative Arts (Painting and Writing) from James Cook University (JCU) and a Bachelor of Visual Arts (JCU). The artist has run numerous workshops and classes for Umbrella and local arts organisations, including printmaking, writing, painting and sculpture workshops. She has over forty years of experience in the arts (with over thirty years in Townsville), is a long-standing Umbrella volunteer, member of Umbrella’s Makerspace Access Group (UMAG) and has been a Makerspace Facilitator for over 5 years.
