Sculpture Drawing Workshop with Tony Fitzsimmons
30 January, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
| See below for pricesEvent Navigation
Join local artist and Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) artist-in-residence Tony Fitzsimmons for a fun afternoon drawing session. This workshop allows participants to draw one of the MOUA life-sized cast sculptures, currently on display at James Cook University. Its twin is now in situ at John Brewer Reef. The artist will offer his observations about the production and installation of the sculptures and underwater greenhouse created by international leading underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor.
Furthermore, Fitzsimmons will provide guidance on different sketching methods, drawing on his wealth of experience drawing sculptures and life models. Participants will be able to observe the scale and dimensions of a real person without worrying that they will change their pose. Tables, chairs and drawing materials (charcoal, charcoal pencils, erasers, A4 cartridge paper and boards) will be supplied. Feel free to bring your own preferred drawing material but please don’t bring easels as space is limited.
This workshop will be held at James Cook University, Building 142 – The Science Place from 3-5pm on Thursday 30 January. Please gather at 3pm outside this building in the shade for an informative chat with Tony before entering the building. There is plenty of free parking across the road, about 30m away.
Tickets $20 each | Limited to 8 spaces | Bookings close 5pm Wednesday 29 January 2020.
