2013 North Queensland Arts Awards will take place on Friday 12 April 2013 at the Townsville Civic Theatre. The Awards recognise the outstanding contribution made to our region’s vibrant cultural life each year, and is an event hosted annually by Townsville City Council. This year Umbrella Studio, our fantastic members and great events have been acknowledged with nominations including; Vicki Salisbury Umbrella Director, Stephen de Jersey Umbrella Studio President for Lost Spaces, Alison McDonald formally on the Board and active Umbrella member, Rurik Henry and Robert Henry for their memorable exhibition Steel and Stone, Creatures of Myth and Magic, and Hanging in the Wind, the record breaking exhibition of photographs compiled by Townsville Bulletin and curated by Scott Radford-Chisholm. There may be others that we don’t know about yet, congratulations to all of the nominees.

Congratulations to our new board members elected at the Annual General Meeting this year. The 2012 Annual report is now available online for all to read. Our new board of management consists of: President – Stephen de Jersey Vice President – Heidi Hatherell Secretary – Isabella Shatte Treasurer – Chris Mills OAM RFD Ordinary Members – Ann Roebuck, Colleen Doyle, Jo Lankester, Karl Scholl & Sue Tilley.

Aberystwyth Residency Opportunity
Residency for emerging visual artists at Aberystwyth Arts Centre in Wales; Umbrella Studio Members who live and work in Australia are invited to apply for a partially funded International Artist in Residence Scheme. Successful artists will be based for a period of 3 months at Aberystwyth Arts Centre in newly built studios designed by the award winning Thomas Heatherwick. When: January 2014 onwards Submissions must be received by 16 August 2013. The artists will be selected and notified in order to make arrangements to travel in 2014. Artists will need to apply for funding to cover the cost of the living accommodation, the living allowance and the return flight. Umbrella Studio and Aberystwyth Arts Centre can assist you with your funding applications.
