About the artist

Jo aspires to create prints with an aesthetic approach. Imagery that is pleasing to the eye, evoking emotion, memory or a sense of place. The natural environment is a constant source of inspiration providing an endless supply of subjects including found objects, natural forming patterns, textures and colours that translate beautifully through a multitude of printmaking techniques.

Lankester believes the landscape has many stories to be told, and enjoys the process of being inspired through the solitude of drawing on location. For her more abstract prints the process of En plein air drawing and mark making is seeing and drawing the landscape in the distance and then gradually focus on subjects in closer proximity until she sees and interprets the essential character of place.

Lankester is a passionate Printmaker living and working in Townsville, Nth Queensland. She studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne and moved to Townsville in 1998. When she arrived in Townsville Lankester was employed as in the Printmaking Department at James Cook University.

She is represented in the National Gallery of Australia Print Collection, Artbank as well as in public and private collections throughout Australia and overseas.
