Margaret Crawford is a local artist and ceramicist who enjoys combining wheel throwing and hand-building processes using porcelain and stoneware clay. She achieved a Diploma of Visual Arts (painting) in 2007 and has since worked predominantly with printmaking and pottery. Crawford is inspired by the North Queensland environs, and finds that pottery combines all of her artistic instincts. Clay, she says, is the “perfect canvas to express myself”. She was recently awarded the best sculpture award for her entry in the 2020 Townsville Art Society Awards, and often sells work in Umbrella’s shop.
