Artist Book Classes for Beginners with Margaret Robertson
7 November, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 21 November, 2020 @ 12:30 pm

Join Umbrella and artist Margaret Robertson for a short, fun and experimental art-making course over three mornings – 9:30am-12:30pm on Saturdays 7, 14 and 21 November 2020.
Participants of all skill levels will learn a variety of printmaking techniques and use these to make an individualised artist book. An artist book is generally defined “as a book made by an artist and intended as a work of art”. Within this broad category, Margaret will teach basic relief techniques (e.g. linocut and transfer prints) and paper-folding techniques, and encourage participants to hone in on the processes that work for them and their vision. Her inclusive style will also enable participants to use their own reference materials to make their book personalised and unique. Participants are therefore encouraged to bring their own inspirational images (printed or digital) or objects, and metal rulers if possible. All other materials (and morning tea) will be provided.
The classes will all be held in the downstairs Makerspace of Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts, 408 Flinders Street, Townsville (next to Mary Who? Bookshop and opposite Woolworths). Participants are required to wear covered footwear, and are encouraged to attend all three sessions to get their value for money and learn all the techniques to make their book.
Tickets (9 hours total classes) $185 each for Umbrella members | $200 each non-members
