Join Umbrella and artist Kaz Hauser from 10am-12:30pm Sunday 22 November 2020 for a festive glass ornaments workshop. Participants will be taught basic kiln-forming techniques and processes to create their own ornaments for hanging this holiday season. Kaz will provide basic pattern ideas and glass (raw materials) in their cold state, and encourage participants to create their own designs (within the technical parameters) with the materials supplied. Participants can expect to create 2-3 ornaments with the materials supplied, but can adjust their sizing to create more. Kaz will then fire the creations in her studio kiln after the workshop to complete the glass forms. Participants will be able to pick up their finished ornaments from Umbrella from Tuesday 1 December 2020.

For safety reasons, participants are required to wear covered footwear, either spectacles or safety glasses while cutting glass, and a provided face mask while handling certain materials. (Participants may also wear a mask throughout as a COVID-19 precaution). All other materials will also be provided. The workshop will be held at Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts, 408 Flinders Street, Townsville (next to Mary Who? Bookshop and opposite Woolworths).

Tickets (2.5 hours total) $80 each for Umbrella members | $100 each non-members | Limited to 10 spaces

Kaz Hauser makes kiln-formed glass objects to display, use and wear, often incorporating other materials, from her home studio in Townsville. She has participated in group and joint exhibitions in Melbourne, Townsville and the Blue Mountains.
