Merchandising artwork can be a way for artists to create income. It can raise your public profile with new customers and can be a significant link to drawing attention to your arts practice. This workshop delivered by Justin Bishop from Black Square Arts (Cairns) demystifies merchandising, demonstrating how you can transition your original designs into a reproduceable format for market consumption (e.g. on cups, tea towels, sarongs etc). It teaches participants how, where and why they merchandise and educates on the economics of making merchandise work for them.
Things to be covered:
- merchandise vs marketing
- undertaking market research
- brand identity concepts
- merchandising artwork: what and how?
- options for varying budgets
- pricing awareness
- licensing for merchandise
- cultural protocol
- appropriation/ intellectual property and copyright in merchandising
During the break, Arts Queensland will hold a consultation on a 10-Year Roadmap for arts and culture. Have your say on how Queensland can celebrate Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, support Indigenous artists’ and arts workers’ career development, and also create and share more First Nations stories.
