The NQ Arts Directory aims to connect and promote creative practitioners, arts-based businesses and organisations between Townsville, Ayr, Palm Island, Charters Towers and Ingham via an online portal. This directory will provide greater access to, and more opportunities for collaboration and communication between NQ creative arts professionals. To be eligible to have an entry in the directory you must be: an individual artist practitioner an arts administrator or arts worker any other individual who identifies as being of the arts ilk a community organisation that provides services, workshops, support and advocacy to the NQ arts community or a business that directly relates to the creative arts or provides direct support or service to the NQ arts community. Colours of the Coral – a new, exciting exhibition is soon to open at the Museum of Tropical Queensland! On Saturday, March 1st, the Museum of Tropical Queensland is launching a new and permanent Coral display called ‘Colours’. In recognition of this important exhibition opening, the museum would like to enhance the Great Gallery space for a period of at least one month, with … corals and associated marine life. Corals or fish, jelly fish, crustaceans etc, can be knotted, painted, knitted, sewn, crocheted or drawn, and will be hung, strewn, placed, glued and fitted in and around the Great Gallery. The fish will need to be larger than life as they will be hung up high above the gallery floor. We will also be including just one very large prawn. I’m organising a forthcoming exhibition at the Museum of Tropical Queensland called Made from Scratch. It’s about show casing the creative talent we have in our community. What I would love to see is that special, amazing item /s that will make the difference between a good display and a really great display, and which will make visitors exclaim, “WOW”. Yes – a WOW factor! We’ve had the car, we’ve had the dalek and now …..?? Within reason, there is no restriction on what can be exhibited. The item or items can be controversial, enormous, tiny, reflective of social comment … and it doesn’t have to be made from re-cycled material.
