Call for Artists: Made from Scratch

I’m organising a forthcoming exhibition at the Museum of Tropical Queensland called Made from Scratch. It’s about show casing the creative talent we have in our community.

What I would love to see is that special, amazing item /s  that will make the difference between a good display and a really great display, and which will make visitors exclaim,  “WOW”.  Yes – a  WOW factor!  We’ve had the car, we’ve had the dalek and now …..??

Within reason, there is no restriction on what can be exhibited. The item or items can be controversial, enormous, tiny, reflective of social comment …  and it doesn’t  have to be made from re-cycled material.  It can be glued, sewn, carved, strung or welded etc. Large items can be hung on a wall or displayed on the floor.  Small items can be exhibited in a display case with other people’s small items. It’s an opportunity to be ‘out there’ with your creativity.

A bit further down the track I’ll be asking all  contributors to write something about themselves, provide me with some photographs and describe the process of making the object. This information will accompany the exhibition as a video or as text.

I would like the exhibition to be accompanied by a series of weekend, museum-based workshops where members of the community can either simply observe how the objects are created or can engage in the making of some things themselves. This is all about providing a fabulous and informative experience.

NOTE CHANGE OF DATES: The display opens mid-May  and closes  mid-September  2014.

If you would like to be involved or would like some more information, please contact me, Viv Moran, at the museum on:
