Wanderlust officially opens
27/10/2014
It has truly been a great week for Umbrella Studio and NQ artists, with the launch of the Wanderlust exhibition opening at the Judith Wright Centre, Brisbane last Tuesday evening.
The collaborative project between Umbrella Studio, PressNorth Printmakers, Flying Arts Alliance & the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts finally came to reality after one year of planning and organising. The exhibition Wanderlust by PressNorth Printmakers showcases the exemplary skills and talents of printmakers who are currently living and working in Townsville, North Queensland and beyond. The exhibition opened at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Brisbane on Tuesday 21 October 2014.
Myself and Jo Lankester, President of PressNorth Printmakers went down to assist with install and attend open the exhibition, and it was a great experience to work with new people and meet the Flying Arts and Judith Wright Centre staff & volunteers. The exhibition looks truly amazing in the darkened room with the works lit to make them look like they are “popping off the walls”.
The opening was well attended by a crowd of local Brisbane printmakers, friends and family of the artists, and key stakeholders such as staff from Arts Queensland. Stephen Clarke, Flying Arts CEO spoke of the collaboration between the organisations to make this exhibition happen and welcomed Judy Watson to officially open it. Jo Lankester also spoke about the group, PressNorth Printmakers and their vision and goals as a printmaking collective in NQ. Jo & myself gave a small floortalk about each artist and their practice to finish the night. We even made a few sales!
In addition, the exhibition is currently being featured on the Flying Arts virtual online gallery – VArtspace! gallery. You can see all the works in the exhibition here: www.flyingarts.org.au/wanderlust
