Call for Exhibition: Expressions of Interest
29/11/2017Umbrella artists are invited to show expressions of interest in being part of an exhibition highlighting portraits of people who have experienced Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is an health issue which is often ignored both privately and publicly and it is hoped the exhibition will heighten community awareness.
It is expected the exhibition will take place at Umbrella Studio in 2019 but an expression of interest will need to be lodged by 28 February 2018. We hope to be able to provide a sitter who has experienced PTSD if you are unable to source your own.
There is also a curatorial opportunity for someone who would like to coordinate the exhibition and curate the show.
Please make your expression of interest in the exhibition and any questions you may have by clicking here to email Jan Hynes
Hi, Jan/Umbrella..I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2015 after a long series of distressing events…I have a self portrait that I did several years ago when I was really struggling. I don’t know if that one could be used in the exhibition or if I’d need to do another one? Regards, Carmel.
I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, after experiencing a bashing in Cairns.I relocated to Brisbane and commenced a long journey to recovery, which has taken many years. Now I am living a fulfilling and adventurous life.Peace is my mantra.i would love to be involved in this exhibition.I will supply a self portrait for the exhibition, or undertake a portrait if asked.Great idea for a show!It is sure to help many who have suffered.Congratulations Umbrella.
Hi Jan / Umbrella,
I was diagnosed with PTSD in 2000 after surviving and witnessing numerous instances of extreme violence, hardship and abuse. After 17 years of sustained personal effort & development and family / community support, I have almost fully recovered. Thanks to an excellent psychotherapist, a loving and caring family / community and partner, and art (my enduring and ongoing therapy).
I am interested in being part of the exhibition – perhaps as an artist and a sitter.. could I do a self-portrait?
Regards, Bernadette
