Reborn Etching Press
11/09/2013Umbrella has a wonderful new/old press. This press was one of Umbrella’s original presses going back over 26 years. The story is; someone took it home and left it under their house for over 10 years to rust and corrode from salt water. Jo Lankester, one of our printmaker members rescued it and brought it back to us, but it was in terrible shape, destined for the dump. Jeff Vickers, former JCU sculptor technician – an amazingly and handy guy, has completely restored it. We just got it back from Jeff all shiny and painted, with new bits and rolling as smooth as silk. We will use our reborn press for travelling workshops, school groups and as an extra press. We have named it the “Vickers Press” for obvious reasons.
